Generator for agriculture

A generator for agriculture provides reliable power for farms, livestock buildings, stores, ventilation, pumping and other technologies. We design a suitable solution based on the type of operation, output, automation and the required operational reliability.

  • AKSA outputs 20–500 kVA
  • Automatic changeover (ATS)
  • PTO alternative available

An outage in agriculture is an operational risk

Unlike an office operation, where an outage means interrupted work, in livestock production or food cooling an outage can mean direct and irreversible losses. A correctly designed standby source eliminates this risk.

The way the generator is used is one of the key inputs of the design. Standby and continuous operation place different demands on the machine — in sizing, configuration and the service plan. In agriculture the frequency and length of outages in the given location also play a role.

We are happy to advise on the choice for specific agricultural applications — including PTO (tractor-driven) generators. Write to us or call.

Why power continuity is critical in agriculture

Livestock needs power constantly

Livestock production requires continuous power — ventilation, lighting, feeding lines and waterers cannot wait for the supply to be restored.

Stored goods at risk

An outage in a store with agricultural commodities or seed can mean a direct financial loss or damage to stock.

Forced ventilation

Forced ventilation of livestock buildings and production areas protects the health of animals and staff. A ventilation outage of even a few hours can have serious consequences.

Water supply

Pumping water for animals, irrigation or technological processes is among the critical functions where an interruption means an immediate problem.

Cooling chain

Cooling of milk, meat and other agricultural products requires continuous power. An interruption can lead to spoiled products and hygiene complications.

Farm infrastructure

Workshops, repair shops, fuel stations and farm control systems — the backbone the whole operation depends on.

Where a generator for agriculture makes sense

Livestock operations

Dairy farms, poultry and pig houses — ventilation, feeding technology and milking equipment depend on continuous power.

Cooling and storage

Milk coolers, cold stores for produce and refrigerated storage — an outage endangers the whole batch.

Greenhouses and irrigation

Greenhouse technology, irrigation pumps and fertigation — seasonal but output-critical loads.

Remote locations

Farms and field installations without grid access or with a weak connection.

Processing operations

Agricultural processing plants with multiple consumption points.

Standby or continuous operation — what it means for agriculture

Generator as standby

  • Backup during distribution-grid outages.
  • Starts automatically, transfers critical circuits and returns to standby after the supply is restored.
  • Suitable for farms connected to the distribution grid where outages are not an everyday occurrence.

Generator as primary or regular source

  • Primary or regular power source — in locations with a weak grid, limited connection capacity or when extending the operation beyond the capacity of the connection.
  • Requires different sizing and shorter service intervals.

What must be considered in the design

Total critical load

Total consumption of critical consumers — ventilation, pumps, cooling, lighting. Output is set individually with respect to the simultaneity of switched loads.

Starting currents

Pump and fan motors draw several times more at start-up than in steady operation. This starting current must be handled by the generator without a voltage drop.

Grid stability in the location

Depends on the grid stability of the area. Farms in more remote locations face outages more often — in such cases it may be appropriate to size the generator for longer operation too.

Automatic takeover

In an agricultural operation, automatic takeover without manual intervention is essential — especially at night or outside working hours when the operator is not on site.

Autonomy

From several hours of standby to multi-day autonomy during a longer grid outage. Operating time determines the fuel tank size — integrated or external.

Fuel logistics

For farms and remote locations a larger fuel reserve is advantageous. Tank refilling must be adapted to availability in the specific location.

Noise

Agricultural operations are usually located away from built-up areas, yet noise can matter — especially with respect to neighbouring buildings, residential objects or animal welfare.

Installation options

Farms and agricultural areas offer various installation options — from a machine room through a canopy to fully outdoor operation. Each location has different requirements for execution.

Environment and service

Dusty environment, humidity, biological exhalations and temperature swings typical for agricultural operations are considered when choosing the execution and protective enclosures. Distance from service support, spare-parts availability and contracted emergency support — in agriculture, where an outage does not wait, service is part of the solution.

It is not just a generator — it is a complete functional system

Industrial generator units

Industrial AKSA generators with Perkins, Doosan or Volvo Penta engines. Outputs 20–500 kVA for agricultural applications.

Automatic transfer switch (ATS)

The transfer switch moves the supply on an outage without manual intervention — a critical function for operations where an operator is not constantly present.

Switchboards and coordination

Power and control switchboards, cable interconnections, coordination with the existing electrical installation of the farm or agricultural area.

Fuel storage

Integrated or separate tank sized for the required operating time. For remote farms also multi-day standby without refuelling.

Execution

Canopied execution for outdoor installation or an open unit for technical facilities. The choice follows from the installation site and operating conditions.

Alarms and service

GSM alarms and automatic notifications on fault — suitable for farms without permanent staff. A service contract ensures regular maintenance and emergency response.

Tractor PTO generators as an alternative

How PTO works

The generator is connected to the tractor's power take-off (PTO) shaft and uses its engine as the drive source. No own combustion engine in the generator is needed.

Remote and seasonal use

Suitable for remote plots, seasonal operations and places without access to the grid. Tractor and generator together form a mobile power source.

Model-dependent availability

Available outputs depend on the tractor power and the specific application. The generator output must match the PTO capabilities — we will assess a suitable configuration.

Economic option

Where a tractor is available and the need for electricity is situational or seasonal, a PTO generator can be a significantly more economical solution than a separate diesel unit.

Standby and field work

Depending on the configuration, suitable both for emergency supply during an outage and for longer operation during agricultural work away from the fixed grid.

Combination with a fixed unit

A PTO generator and a diesel unit do not exclude each other on a farm — the PTO covers mobile and seasonal needs, the diesel unit covers automatic standby of critical operations.

Practical solutions.

Every operation individually

The backup of a livestock building differs from the backup of a produce cold store. We design every solution after analysing the specific operation, technology and power requirements. Catalogue solutions are not enough — a correct design starts from your actual operation.

Advice before the contract

Our engineers advise on output, configuration and duty type — before a contract is signed and without unnecessary pressure.

Experience with real applications

We deliver generators to industrial and agricultural operations in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and other EU countries. We know the demands of real applications.

Authorised AKSA dealer

As an authorised AKSA dealer we provide industrial units, spare parts and emergency service. The standby must always work — even on a weekend.
