Generators for warehouses and logistics

A generator for warehouses and logistics helps secure operational continuity during a power outage. We design a suitable solution based on the output, technology type, ATS, operating demands and the required level of operational certainty.

  • Logistics centres and warehouses
  • Automatic changeover (ATS)
  • Standby and longer-running duty

Operational continuity for warehouses

For logistics operations with firm delivery deadlines and SLA commitments to customers, a power outage is not just a technical problem — it is a direct business impact. A standby generator is an investment in operational certainty.

The right solution depends on the specific operation — the output of the connected technology, the method of automatic transfer, the required standby duration and the overall context of the site.

Standby power for a warehouse or logistics centre is a system of interconnected components — each of them must be correctly designed and coordinated.

What happens in a warehouse during a power outage

Handling and automation stopped

Electric forklifts without charger power, stopped conveyor lines and disabled sorting systems — handling stops or falls back to inefficient manual work.

WMS and IT down

Warehouse management systems, terminals, label printers and access systems stop working. WMS stock data becomes unavailable or out of date.

Gates and ramps blocked

Automatic doors, loading ramps and conveyor lines stop — movement of goods across the site is prevented.

Direct customer impact

Delayed shipments and unmet SLA commitments have a direct impact on customers and contractual relationships.

Cold chain at risk

In chilled and temperature-controlled warehouses an outage is an immediate risk to the quality and safety of goods — even after a short interruption.

Site security compromised

An outage interrupts access systems, cameras and barriers — the site is no longer controllable and entries cannot be managed in the standard way.

Where a generator for warehouses and logistics makes sense

Large warehouse buildings

Extensive storage buildings with handling equipment, racking systems and control electronics — an outage stops the whole warehouse immediately.

Consolidation and cross-dock hubs

Nodes where an interruption affects dozens of customers and the downstream supply chain — downtime has a direct financial impact.

Multi-building campuses

Sites with several buildings, gates, barriers and technologies — an outage can paralyse the whole campus and prevent vehicles from entering or leaving.

Cold and pharma storage

Warehouses for food, pharmaceuticals or sensitive goods requiring an uninterrupted cooling chain — an interruption directly threatens quality and hygiene safety.

Automated sorting

Automatic conveyor lines, sorting systems and picking robots require stable power — an outage stops output regardless of the state of orders.

Loading and dispatch

Loading ramps, lifting platforms and dispatch technology form a critical point of the operation — an outage during loading means direct delays in deliveries.

Site infrastructure

Control systems, server rooms, security technology, gatehouse and staff facilities — the backbone the whole site depends on.

Standby and longer-running operation — according to the needs of the specific site

The way the generator is used affects the choice of configuration, sizing and the service plan. Standby and continuous operation have different demands — the right choice follows from local conditions and the criticality of the operation.

Generator as standby

  • Backup during a distribution-grid outage.
  • Starts automatically, transfers critical circuits and returns to standby after the supply is restored.
  • Suitable for most logistics operations connected to a distribution grid of acceptable reliability.

Generator as primary or extended source

  • Primary or regular power source — in locations with a weak grid, limited connection capacity or for operation beyond standard standby.
  • Requires different sizing and shorter service intervals.
  • Operating regime is confirmed per project.

What must be considered in the design

Total critical load

Total consumption of critical technologies — handling equipment, cooling, lighting, conveyors. Output is set with respect to simultaneity and phase distribution of the load.

Starting currents

Motor load (compressors, conveyors, pumps) draws several times more at start-up than in steady operation. This must be reflected in the sizing.

Step loading

Simultaneous starting of several motors can overload an undersized generator. Starting-current analysis is part of a correct design.

Automatic changeover

In continuous or multi-shift operations, automatic takeover without manual intervention is essential — the operator need not be present at the moment of the outage. For critical warehouses the system configuration and required availability decide.

Standby duration

From standby covering the grid-restoration period up to multi-hour or multi-day autonomous operation. Operating time determines the fuel tank size.

IT and security coordination

WMS, ERP, security cameras, access systems and UPS backup of server rooms — coordination with the existing infrastructure is part of the design.

Noise

Large logistics centres are often in industrial zones, but noise can still matter — for staff on site or neighbouring buildings.

Installation type

Outdoor installation on a hard surface, a technical room, a canopy or a container execution — each location has different requirements.

Service readiness

In a warehouse running continuously, service must be available quickly. A service contract and spare-parts supply are an integral part of a reliable solution.

Not just a generator, but a complete operational solution

Industrial generator units

Industrial AKSA generators with Perkins, Doosan or Volvo Penta engines. Outputs 20–3000 kVA for standby and continuous operation of logistics and warehouse sites.

Automatic transfer switch (ATS)

The transfer switch moves the supply to the standby generator on a grid failure — without manual intervention, with the minimal delay corresponding to the system configuration.

Switchboards and coordination

Power and control switchboards, cable interconnections, coordination with the site main switchboard and the existing building installation.

Fuel storage

Integrated or separate tank sized for the required operating time. For continuously running operations, larger reserve capacities are available.

Canopied execution

Canopied execution for outdoor installation or placement in built-up areas. Exhaust silencers and acoustic treatment for sensitive locations.

Alarms and service

GSM alarms and automatic notifications on fault, regular maintenance and emergency service response. The standby source must always work — also outside working hours.

Applications

Each solution individually

Standby for a cold store differs from powering an automated distribution centre. We design every solution after analysing the specific technology, output and power requirements.

Urgent requirements

Urgent requests are handled operatively. Selected configurations are available with a shorter lead time — the delivery date is confirmed individually after assessing the specific request.

Experience with real applications

We deliver generators to industrial, logistics and commercial operations in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and other EU countries. We understand the demands of real applications.

Authorised AKSA dealer

As an authorised AKSA dealer we provide industrial units, spare parts and emergency service. The standby source must always work — even on a weekend at three in the morning.

Ratings are indicative, not a full-facility guarantee — the required PRP or ESP rating is confirmed from your load profile, starting loads and critical circuits during project sizing.

Czech projects — scope as agreed

For Czech projects the delivery may include, as agreed: generator supply, design of the installation, commissioning on a prepared site, turnkey realization and a service contract. The scope is always clarified together during consultation and confirmed in the quotation.

International supply — EXW CZ/NL

International direct sales are preferably EXW Czech Republic / Netherlands; transport is agreed individually. Installation and service abroad are possible in agreed cases and are always confirmed individually by location and model. Manufacturer warranty.
