Mobile power on the construction site
Generator for a construction site
On a building site, power is usually needed before a permanent grid connection exists. A correctly designed unit keeps plant, facilities and site technology running without unnecessary downtime — and in some projects it later stays as the building's standby source.
- Trailer and container executions
- Outputs for plant and facilities
- Fast deployment
Overview
Why construction sites need their own source
On a construction site, power is needed earlier than a permanent electrical connection is available. The generator therefore often serves as a temporary source for site plant, facilities, lighting and other operational parts of the project.
In some projects the unit stays on site after completion and continues as the standby source of the building. We therefore adapt the design of the solution not only to the course of construction but also to the future use of the equipment.
Risk of an outage
What an outage or missing connection causes on site
Project schedule at risk
Concrete production on site is tied to the construction schedule. A power outage at a critical moment can delay the whole project.
Loss of material
Fresh concrete mix has limited workability. An interruption of production or mixer cooling at the wrong moment can mean the loss of the whole batch.
Plant cannot run
Welding sets, cranes, pumps and mixers need stable power — without it the site stops.
Temporary facilities without power
Site offices, welfare facilities and lighting depend on a temporary source until the connection is commissioned.
Where it fits
Where a generator for a construction site makes sense
No permanent connection
Sites outside the reach of the distribution grid, or where the connection has not yet been commissioned.
Insufficient connection capacity
Sites where the available connection cannot cover the full output of the construction technology — the generator supplements or replaces the grid source.
Moving sites
Equipment that travels from site to site together with the technology.
Infrastructure projects
Roads, railways, tunnels and bridges with long construction periods and heavy plant.
Night work and winter
Lighting, heating and concreting in reduced visibility and low temperatures.
Comparison
Primary source or backup — it depends on the deployment
Generator as the primary source on site
- Where no connection exists or its capacity is insufficient.
- Sized for continuous operation during the working shift and beyond.
- Larger fuel autonomy and service adapted to intensive duty.
Generator as a supplementary or backup solution
- Where the connection covers basic operation but not peak loads.
- Backup for critical site processes — concreting, pumping, cooling.
- Automatic takeover possible with ATS where it makes sense.
Design factors
What must be considered in the design
Real load including peaks
Total consumption of the technology including starting peaks of motors. Welding sets, cranes and mixers have high starting currents.
Mobility
The way the unit is transported, its weight, dimensions and the requirements for fast installation at a new location. Container or trailer executions ease the move with standard transport.
Rough site conditions
Terrain conditions, dust, humidity, temperature and requirements for foundation stability. A mobile unit must work reliably in a demanding construction environment.
Noise limits
Distance from inhabited areas or statutory limits on site may require acoustic measures — a canopied unit or container execution.
Fuel autonomy
The required length of continuous operation determines the tank size — from one shift through all-day operation to several days without refuelling.
Emissions on site
In locations with emission requirements or near settlements, a Stage V engine may be appropriate. It depends on the specific conditions of deployment and local regulations.
Service in the field
Access to service support, spare-parts availability and contracted service corresponding to the duty regime and location of deployment.
System solution
It is not just a generator — it is a complete functional system
Industrial generator units
Industrial AKSA generators with Perkins, Doosan or Volvo Penta engines. Outputs matched to the requirements of the specific site.
Switchboards and connections
Power and control switchboards, cable interconnections and coordination with the site's electrical installation. Designed as part of the whole solution.
Fuel storage
Integrated or separate tank sized for the required autonomy of operation. Including a drip tray and a connection for mobile refuelling.
Mobile executions
Unit in a mobile container or on a trailer chassis for easy transport and fast commissioning at a new location.
Acoustic execution
Sound-attenuated canopy or container execution for installations with noise requirements. Chosen according to the location and surroundings.
Commissioning and service
Energisation, load tests, documentation handover and service setup. Service arrangements adapted to the duty regime and location of deployment.
Process
Delivery and operation on site
- Step 1
Specify the phase and load
Tell us the project phase, the required output and how the unit will be used — plant, facilities, lighting or process technology.
- Step 2
Design and quotation
We propose the output, execution (trailer, container, canopy) and fuel autonomy for the site schedule.
- Step 3
Delivery, placement, connection
We arrange transport, placement, electrical connection and commissioning on site. We take over the whole coordination.
- Step 4
Operation and relocation
During the project we handle service and, where needed, relocation of the unit between workplaces.
